Craft Reimagined:
Giving Form to Memory

A Legacy of Making

In the village of Kemenuh, where the rhythm of carving has echoed through generations, CV Garuda was established in 1972 as a testament to Balinese craftsmanship. For over five decades, the studio has carried forward a legacy rooted in precision, patience, and deep respect for material.

Now led by its second generation, CV Garuda continues to evolve while remaining anchored in its origins. Wood, glass, and mixed media are shaped not only with technical mastery, but with an understanding that craft is, at its core, a form of storytelling, one that is passed down, refined, and reinterpreted over time.

The Art of Preservation

While many craft houses focus on creation, CV Garuda’s work at The Craft Hotel begins with something different: restoration. Hidden within storage were over a hundred heritage objects, forgotten pieces carrying fragments of Bali’s past.

Rather than leaving them untouched or replacing them entirely, CV Garuda approached these objects with care and intention. Each piece was examined, repaired, and reimagined, allowing its original character to remain, while giving it a renewed presence.

This process transforms restoration into something active. It is not about returning objects to what they once were, but about allowing them to exist again, in a new context.

Circular Craft

At the heart of this approach lies the idea of circularity. Materials are not discarded, but revalued. Objects are not obsolete, but evolving.

Through this lens, CV Garuda introduces a philosophy of “circular craft”, where the past is not separated from the present, but integrated into it. Old carvings, worn surfaces, and aged textures become part of a new narrative, carrying their history forward rather than leaving it behind.

This approach aligns with a broader shift in how we understand luxury, not as something entirely new, but as something meaningful, considered, and enduring.

Where History Lives Again

Within The Craft Hotel, CV Garuda’s work is woven into the space in ways that feel both subtle and significant. A carved panel, a restored object, a reassembled piece, each carries a sense of continuity.

Guests may not immediately recognize the origin of each element, yet there is a feeling that something within the space holds time. That what surrounds them has lived before.

This quiet presence creates depth. It moves beyond surface aesthetics, inviting a more emotional connection to the environment, one that is rooted in memory, material, and the passage of time.

Between Past and Present

CV Garuda’s contribution reflects a balance between preservation and transformation. Their work does not freeze tradition in place, nor does it abandon it. Instead, it allows tradition to move, adapting, evolving, and finding relevance in contemporary contexts.

In doing so, they remind us that craft is not only about making new things, but also about understanding what already exists, and giving it the opportunity to continue.

At The Craft Hotel, this perspective becomes part of a larger narrative: one where history is not displayed, but lived.

Experience the Work

CV Garuda’s work is embedded throughout The Craft Hotel, present in the details, the textures, and the objects that quietly shape the space. Each piece carries a past, reintroduced into the present for you to encounter.

To experience their work is to step into a living history, unfolding through your stay with us.
