The Craft Hotel Ubud

Sound Beyond Borders:
Cultivating Bali's Creative Ecosystem at The Craft Hotel Ubud

In Ubud, creativity is not an imposition; it is a continuous heritage. The makers of this village have long shaped its rhythms—slowly, thoughtfully, and collaboratively. At The Craft Hotel Ubud, this philosophy forms the foundation of its hospitality model. What began as a question of what to keep from a 1990s handicraft factory has evolved into a living canvas. Today, the property aims to redefine the hospitality experience by operating as both a sanctuary for rest and a multi functional hotel that also provides space to host creative events.

On Sunday, 19 July 2026, those foundational walls vibrated with new energy as the hotel hosted the Road to AXEAN Festival 2026: Sound Beyond Borders. The gathering aligned with the hotel’s ongoing initiatives to facillitate creative people and community in Bali, functioning as an inclusive, adaptive environment where music, visual art, and sustainable innovation intersect.

Dialogues that Shape the Future: DICE Restaurant & Bar

The afternoon commenced at the DICE Restaurant & Bar, a space usually celebrated as a stage for crafted culinary flavors. For the festival, the area was repurposed into a collaborative hub for creative industry discussions and networking. The venue hosted two pivotal panel discussions: “Music Industry and Global Opportunities” and “Culture, Community, and Creative Ecosystem”.

Moderated by Agha and Dua Gustra, the sessions featured voices that echo across Southeast Asia’s creative landscape—including AXEAN Festival Co-Founders David Siow, Py Muenprasertdee, and Satria Ramadhan, alongside local visionaries like Astrid Sulaiman, Tommy Sastra of Daur Tera, and Ican Harem. In these moments, DICE expanded its role as a restaurant to serve as a meeting ground for Bali’s creative community to discuss the unpredictable yet promising future of global artistry.

Visuals, Sound, and Imagination: The Craft Art Space Gallery

Moving from spoken word to sensory immersion, the Craft Art Space Gallery hosted an ethereal projector experience curated by Meai Studio. Known for lighting up spaces with visual, sound, and imagination, the studio transformed the gallery’s industrial bones into a fluid, digital dreamscape.

This activation highlighted the gallery’s potential as a dedicated art exhibition space in Ubud. By offering the room as an immersive canvas for digital artists, the hotel invited guests and local creatives to engage with an environment where the physical constraints of the 1994 architecture dissolved into boundless light and color.

The Pulse at DICE Pool: Music and Activations

As the sun dipped lower, the energy naturally migrated to the DICE Pool. The salvaged timber decks that line the water—crafted from the factory’s original floorboards—became the viewing ground for a live music showcase. DJ sets from Satria Ramadhan, Richart Volx, Ican Harem and Noid, alongside an electrifying performance by Koesbilindo x Rajamala, demonstrated how the property’s spaces can accommodate exhilarating, boundary-pushing sound.

Flanking the pool, the festival featured hands-on activations tailored for Bali’s maker community. Devano Konveksi Screenprinting led a live press print session, inviting attendees to engage directly with the tactile rhythm of making. Beside them, the Daur Terra Sustainability partner showcase reinforced how modern creation and hospitality intersect with environmental mindfulness.

A Canvas for the Community

Hosting the Road to AXEAN Festival 2026 illustrates how revitalized architecture can serve as a prime venue for creative community events in Ubud. The Craft Hotel Ubud is designed to be more than a destination for travelers; it actively participates in the local arts and culture scene. By opening its doors to musicians, visual artists, and sustainability advocates, the hotel continues to build a network where Bali’s local creatives and international minds can connect, collaborate, and gather.

Whether providing an inspiring retreat or serving as a collaborative event space in Bali, The Craft Hotel Ubud functions as a living, breathing canvas, ready for the next layer of culture and creativity.
