The Craft Hotel Ubud

Object No. WOO-026
Primitive Weathered Mask on Pedestal
Physical Description:

A hand-carved wooden sculpture featuring a stylized human face with serene, closed eyes and a prominent, elongated nose, meticulously shaped using the traditional Ukir technique. The piece is characterized by its heavily distressed surface, where the natural grain of the wood is accentuated by a weathered driftwood grey patina and deep umber undertones, suggesting an ancient, excavated relic. Across the forehead, a series of rhythmic, etched cross-hatch patterns provide a crown-like ornamental detail that adds textural depth to the smooth, contemplative expression of the mask. Mounted on a slender metal rod atop a solid, obsidian-black rectangular pedestal, the composition balances the raw, organic soul of the timber with a clean, modern display format, celebrating the timeless stone-carving aesthetics of Balinese architectural masks through a rustic wooden medium.
