A Legacy Reimagined
The Craft Archives
A Brief History of CV Garuda Bali
The Craft Hotel Ubud is more than a destination; it is an adaptive reuse project breathed into the former crafted goods facility of CV Garuda Bali. Founded in 1972 and nurtured through two generations, this site has been a cornerstone of Balinese artistry for over five decades. Today, we honor that history by reliving the spirits of what was once left behind.
Deep within the factory’s storage, we discovered over 300 archival samples—abandoned treasures that represent the peak of local mastery. Every piece is a testament to the process of making, entirely handmade by master artisans from the woodcarving heart of Desa Mas, the stone-shaping hands of Batubulan, and the weavers of Karangasem. No machines were involved, only the focused rhythm of human touch.
Through a meticulous process of refurbishing, repainting, and repolishing, we have brought life back to these samples, integrating them into our interior to preserve their enduring energy. We invite you to wander through our halls and witness this living archive—where the heritage of CV Garuda continues to inspire the journey of every guest.
